REQUIRE the APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS and POLICE to provide SUBSTANTIVE RESPONSES to serious ideas and issues even if it is a bit uncomfortable for them.

Your failure do this consistently sends a clear signal about the real utility of this page, the workings of our city bureaucracy and probably explains why the ideas page is virtually unused.

A lack of serious responses from responsible city official breeds apathy.

How about fixing that as my idea and then promoting this webpage as a place residents can go to get serious responses FROM THE RESPONSIBLE CITY OFFICIAL to anyserious ideas and concerns posted here.

The way it looks from here is the city only responds when the answer promotes some bureaucrats agenda regardless of the merits of the suggestion or concern.

Enforce Hermosa Beach and Strand regulations, especially around Surf Statue; Children playing on top of garbage, urine, feces, discarded cigarettes, broken glass bottles/caps, food containers, chewing gum and beach tar.

In order to determine the impact of the. number dogs on the local neighborhoods there needs to be an accurate count.

The sidewalks along Pier and Hermosa Avenues are totally disgusting and need to be powerwashed/sanitized every week. Because of the amount of thowup, takeout food and urine clearly visible on these streets; we should be able to have the bars downtown pay for this much needed service

Would like the sidewalks to be cleaned periodically, more so than the streets. The oil/tar from the telephone poles is everywhere and gets tracked in from shoes and pets.

Idea: Leaf Blowers

Debra Cucci over 4 years ago

I think we should outlaw leaf blowers in HB. Or at least limit their use to one or two days each week. In my neighborhood there are gardeners using leaf blowers Monday through Friday AND SATURDAY, all hours from 8:00 am until 7:00 (in summertime). Very few of us have so many trees on our property that the leaf blowers are truly necessary. How can we get this in front of City Council?

There appears to be additional tar buildup in the weeks following the initial cleanup after the Refugio oil spill. I should think the oil company responsible could send a smaller crew to do another cleanup. The tar clumps on the beach are still larger than what could be considered natural seepage.

This is a very busy intersection. Replacing stop signs with signal lights will allow for smoother flow of traffic on Pier Ave, and prevent cars traveling on Ardmore Ave and Valley Dr from speeding while trying to make it through the intersection. This will also make it safer for pedestrians to cross the streets.

The strand, sidewalks private property and parks smell of dog urine. Please consider passing a ordinance or law that requires dog owners must carry and use poop bags and spray bottles with white wine vinegar or other non toxic pet urine removal spray if they are going to walk their dog an allow the dog to poop or urinate on public or private property.

According to the MBF CONSULTING, INC., MARCH 2011 (Revised) SANITARY SEWER MASTER PLAN-UPDATE Prepared for Hermosa Beach, "Discussions with staff revealed routine maintenance activities, such as hydro flushing of old concrete sewer pipes sometimes results in collapse of the sewer line. As a result, the City is reluctant to undertake such routine maintenance for fear of accelerating the deterioration of the pipe. (p. 23, paragraph 1). ” In order to abate the rat infestation in our sewers, and avoid rats coming up through our toilets from broken pipes, holes and cracks, the minimum expectation is to perform routine sewer maintenance. This is what the Utility User Tax enacted in July 1998, which was promoted to the voting public as a “sewer tax,” was meant for. It was not meant to be misappropriated into the general budget at the City Manager’s discretion. Not performing routine sewer maintenance is a health hazard.
