In an effort to increase foot traffic, business patronage and overall economic growth throughout our downtown core – while integrating strategies for more sustainable parking and enforcement operations – the City of Hermosa Beach is currently implementing a comprehensive ‘Pilot Parking Program’ through Dec. 15th. This 90-day program is comprised of three components:

 

    1)  Free daytime parking on select meters throughout the City's downtown between 11AM - 2PM, M-F. (Meters offering the free parking include all on-street credit-card operable 'smart' meters along Pier and Hermosa Avenues).

 

    2)  Expansion of 'smart' meter technology in the City via a trial of two industry-leading versions of parking meters (the Duncan 'Liberty', and IPS 'M5'). The side-by-side comparison of these meters offers staff and the public the opportunity to interface with these and ultimately provide valuable input as the City moves towards upgrading coin-only street meters.     3)  Implementation of 'Demand Pricing' (flexible hourly rates) throughout select lots and streets in the downtown area between the hours of 8PM - 12AM/2AM. 

 

We want to hear your constructive feedback regarding these components. Please be as specific as you can in your responses/recommendations. We will then aggregate the input collected and share with City officials as part of a larger presentation.

The Hermosa Five-O Senior Activity Center opened in May of 2010 and is open to all South Bay Residents who are over the age of 50. Hermosa Five-O members are a group of fun, active and motivated people, who continually strive to improve their lives and their community. We believe it is important to stay healthy, continue to learn, and have fun each day so we do our best to program a variety of activities to help us to live a balanced life: physically, emotionally and mentally.

THE FUTURE OF FIRE SERVICES WITHIN CITY
Levels of Service, Cost Options to Be Reviewed by Community

 

Hermosa Beach, Calif. – The City of Hermosa Beach will be hosting two Town Hall meetings to discuss the future of fire services within the City.

The meetings will consist of a presentation of service levels by Interim Hermosa Beach Fire Department Chief Pete Bonano, and review our options for staffing the fire department and the associated costs relating to the future of fire services.  The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

The second meeting is scheduled for the following:

• Mon., Sept. 26^th at the Community Theater (710 Pier Ave.), 7 PM – 9 PM

In line with City's Strategic Plan goal of creating a more livable and sustainable beach City, the Hermosa Beach City Council unanimously adopted an expanded smoking ordinance at the regular City Council meeting of August. 23, 2016. As a result, smoking is now banned in all outdoor public places throughout the City, including private outdoor areas where the public is invited. The new ordinance also added emissions from electronic smoking devices in the definition of "smoking," thus prohibiting the smoking of such devices. Furthermore, the enforcement provision of the ordinance was reduced from a misdemeanor to an infraction.

City staff has already begun reaching out to our community to educate visitors and constituents that the City intends to be smoke-free. As we strive to make Hermosa Beach a better place, we ask that you please share your thoughts and ideas with us!
