Strongly oppose! This would destroy the struggling remaining bars and restaurants!

Everyone I know is 100% for this. But I see that the bars are blasting out an email to all their employees and patrons with a link to oppose this. So the comments posted here are probably not representative of the community. These proposals would not only not hurt the local economy, it'll help make this a more desirable place to live. My family is strongly moving out of the town which used to be family friendly, but is quickly becoming one giant alcoholic and partying destination. Long term, your property values will fall as families leave to better governed communities.

I live within a few short blocks of the pier, can hear the noise (yes, sometimes there is noise), and recently experience the backup of traffic due to the new 'traffic pattern' and yes, I do not wish to have late night brawls occurring within eyesight of my home. However, there are no perfect situations as there are pros and cons to every scenario. This proposal is absolutely nonsensical. I oppose this and propose we revisit the person who holds the City Manager position. Further, if we have these concerns, then we should COLLABORATE with our local business owners and not further run them out of business. Let's use our time more wisely and focus on the drugs being sold to our children, homeless issues, and other community related challenges.

The vast majority of Hermosa citizens strongly oppose this proposed ordinance. The remaining few who support this are people who complain about anything and everything. Please don’t hurt our local business and pier livelihood by implementing ANY part of this ordinance.

Strongly oppose this ordinance and doesn’t support the local businesses that have been able to survive through the past year and have helped to reshape downtown Hermosa over the years.

My Hermosa Beach property value is directly tied to a vibrant pier economy. This ordinance would quash that. Furthermore, the restriction on queues outside businesses seems completely unenforceable. Why kick the business es while they are down after this pandemic. No to this ordinance.

Strongly oppose. Whoever thought of this is quite possibly the biggest loser on the planet. Would absolutely destroy our restaurants. Shame on you!

Reject. It’s time to let the economic recovery of local small businesses catch up with other cities and states now that we have a high number of vaccinated citizens and we seem to be returning to some semblance of normalcy. This seems counter-productive and an overreach without much upside. Protect our local businesses so we do not see more boarded up windows and “out of business” signs.

I strongly oppose this motion. Using the pandemic as an excuse to impose draconian restrictions on public space, restaurants, and bars is despicable. The point of re-opening is to give the community their freedom back, not take previous enjoyable activities away.

I oppise this . Haven't the restaurants and bars suffered enough. Stop interfering with peoples livelihoods. Go work on the homeless problem.

This is the last thing the community needs - it will kill the pier and the businesses there and everything that makes hermosa pier entertaining

This seems to need considerable rethinking. While we need to ensure public safety we can’t do so at the expense of local business which has been so hard hit this last year.

I'm all for texting people when their table is ready, but reducing the capacity at bars is not going to stop people from being intoxicated in public (this seems to be the main issue in the document if I'm reading it correctly). Quite the opposite actually, it'll just push them out the strand/beach. I encourage you to go the opposite direction, expand the seating capacity and booze friendly areas. That parking lot where mermaid's used to be... what a waste of valuable real estate. Allow bars/restaurants to put seating out there either as a waiting area or serving area.

I strongly oppose this ordinance and any city council members that agree with it have bad intentions for the city and should be removed.

How could you possibly think this is in the best interest of the Hermosa Beach citizenry? You will inflict more damage to our city’s already struggling restaurants by moving forward with this. Shame on you!

Why is our council fundamentally trying to change Hermosa Beach? The council is meant to be a voice of the residents. For far to long this council has not been making decisions that represent the wants or desires of residents of Hermosa Beach. We are a social town! Born of the nightlife and of events we are the beach town that others have longed to be. We have set that standard of what a beach town is for many decades. Recently we have forgotten who we are and where we come from. We have deviated from our heart and soul. We are a town born from the beach and the social aspects. From Mervyns beach bash, to iron man and Jimmy Buffet- this is who we are and why people move here. The attempt to control the business entities that have kept this city alive is unconscionable. Let’s address the real issues -“bike sharrows”, power lines, sewer systems - the list is endless. We want bars, we want controlled alcohol on the beach, we want live music and more events and all the social components. We are not about control, bike friendly but not bike over-run. Our kids deserve the lifestyle we grew up with and what we know Hermosa is. Let’s not ruin what and who we are. Stop fiddling with what’s not broken and concentrate on what is broken. It’s clear that this council doesn’t represent our city or our residents any longer. Please admit when you’re wrong and let’s come together and start to focus on issues that we the residents want - don’t destroy this town and take it in the direction that California is heading. Let’s be the leaders that we have always been and be the beach town we are loved for. Do the right thing- stand up for our businesses and for our town! This is a terrible idea that needs to be nipped in the bud now.
